Vedic Astrology is also referred to as Hindu Astrology, Indian Astrology, etc. However, Vedic Astrology is available to and popular with people all over the world. Vedic Astrology is synonymous with Jyotisha. Jyoti means light, and in the context of Jyotisha, means lights from the celestial bodies, such as the sun, the moon, the planets, constellations, and other heavenly bodies. Thus, Jyotisha means the effect of light or radiations from the planets and other heavenly bodies on the earth and mostly on humans over a period of time which may be in the past, the present or, most interestingly, the future. After all, most of the sciences, including Economics, Physics, Chemistry/Pharmacy, etc. all try to predict the futuristic effect of certain objects or materials or circumstances on other objects or materials or circumstances. Thus, there is a continuous aspect of research in these subjects with the primary purpose of improving human life. The same is true of Vedic Astrology: it is a continuous quest for betterment of human life. A Vedic Astrologer thus has to study or have a basic understanding of Astronomy, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Physiology, Ayurveda, etc.; obviously, without this knowledge, how can he or she guide or counsel his or her clients and students who come from various backgrounds and have various interests? The designs aim to integrate architecture with nature, the relative functions of various parts of the structure, and ancient beliefs utilising geometric patterns, symmetry, and directional alignments.” Vastu is not only for plots of land or buildings, it applies to interiors, rooms, furniture, utensils, etc. Vastu is very ancient and is popular in many countries and civilizations, the notable parallel being Feng Shui in China. Here, again, the purpose of Vastu is to improve human life by arranging or re-arranging the surroundings of the particular individual or family or business or any other organization or group of people. Thus, a Vastu practitioner also has to have a more than basic idea of Geography, Architecture, Mathematics, Physiology, Chemistry/Pharmacy, Finance/Economics, etc., because without this knowledge the Vastu Guru will not be able to properly guide his or her clients, students, etc.
